I’ve been coming here for over 10 years and every time it’s a great experience. Gina is an absolute master of her craft. As a man with mid length hair, finding the right stylist has always been a challenge, and after working with Gina, I can’t imagine going anywhere else. I even lived in Europe for a few years and would make an appointment every time I would visit home. The atmosphere is warm and friendly and the staff is just wonderful. I’m grateful I found this place and would recommend it to everyone out there!

I decided I wanted to come back to Nicole and Shag 86 because she she simply is the best. Tom Harris has been cutting my hair for 45 years and I would follow him anywhere. I loved seeing his new "home" and as always, had my air cut exactly how I want it. I have extremely curly, frizzy hair that I never learned how to appreciate. I would throw my hair up in a bun every day because wearing it down was never an option; my curls were too unruly and frizzy for that. I never had the confidence to just let my hair be - I have actually cried tears over my hair. Then I found Shag 86 and Lily who literally changed my life. Lily taught me that I didn’t have to rely on keratin treatments to only tolerate my hair. She made it possible for me to wear my hair down in its natural state and I actually have the confidence to do so! My hair is alive for the first time in 38 years. My curls are shiny, bouncy, and healthy. I live over an hour away from the salon but it’s worth the drive. Thank you to everyone at Shag 86, especially Lily for everything!

I have had virtually the same hair for the last 10 years, medium to long blonde bayalage hair. I decided my hair needed a break from the bleach and I wanted to cut off all dead hair so I went shoulder/collarbone length, warm brown, with bangs. Yes, bangs. This was a big move and there is no one else but Tracey that I would put that trust in and boy did she deliver. I am so happy with my new look!!

I came to her from a recommendation from a friend who had her hair fried by another salon. I was in a similar situation when I came to her and LET ME TELL YOU this woman knows her hair! She will work with you, she will be honest about your expectations and she will make recommendations (listen to her because you won’t be disappointed). The first time I came to her, I was reluctant about listening to her but she really worked with me and I left feeling like a million bucks -in the middle of a pandemic... now that’s magic. I just went to her recently and just told her to do her thing and left happier than ever. You don’t find experts like this often and tbh I really shouldn’t be writing this review because she’s already in high demand but I think she deserves all the praise in the world. So this is my gift to you all... if you’re feeling down, get your hair done by her and you will feel so much better!

I have done approx. 6 or so Keratin treatments at other salon's and with confidence I can say Maica has done it the best. After washing it 3 days later I actually still had VOLUME!!!!, which never happens. She also gave me a perfect blunt cut to help grow my hair out evenly and healthier and WOW this is the healthiest my hair has ever felt. In the past she has also done the Olaplex treatment on me and that helped the health of my hair as well from the split ends. If you are looking for someone who is actually going to invest in the health of your hair choose Maica, you will not be disappointed. I would 100% recommend Maica for all hair services, especially Keratin!!! Thank you Maica for having such dedication and caring so much about my hair!!!

Coming to Shag 86 is a little escape from life for me! My first visit a couple years ago, Tracy did my cut and blowout and I’ve been coming to her ever since. The salon is gorgeous and safe!

After being very pleased with a haircut from Maica last month, I returned for a single-process color. The color came out great-- Maica mixed the perfect color to hide my gray roots (and more:) and give me the natural look I wanted. She also recommended a glaze to help restore my hair which was needed to fix the discoloration from coloring it myself, making my hair rich and vibrant. I felt very comfortable with all aspects-safety precautions due to COVID were in place, and there was a comfortable, relaxed atmosphere.

Fritzi is the best. She listens to what you want and offers her professional input with no pressure. Always happy when I leave her chair! The salon is also incredibly clean and stringent with health and safety procedures.

I drive from Toms River to SHAG. The service is top notch, they make me feel as though I am their only customer and I'm not. Lily, she just rocks it in every way. Or not being able to give me the hair color I asked for, UNTIL I found sweet Maica. Every visit to Shag is a relaxing and pampering experience. Their Covid protocols make me feel safe, and everyone's health and safety is a top priority. I am currently going through a major health issue which effect my immunity, so I must be very careful in public spaces to avoid getting sick. I had nothing to worry about visiting Shag. I'd specifically like to give a shout out to Gina, whose kindness, talent and skill is beyond compare. Without fail, no matter how I feel or look coming in, I leave feeling wonderful!!

I’ve been coming to shag 86 for while now. When I first came to Roseanna I had black hair and wanted to be platinum. Of course I wanted it to be done in one day but Roseanna stopped me and said she wouldn’t allow that to happen because she wanted to keep my hair healthy but to be patient and we will get there. It was a long journey but Roseanna exceeded my expectations and got me to the Barbie blonde I dreamed of. Without her support, patience, honesty, knowledge, and professionalism I wouldn’t be where I am today with the hair I always wanted. She is one amazing stylist and deserves to be rewarded for it. Tracy usually does my cut but I’ve been coming for blowouts and cuts over the last year and a half - sometimes when she is not available I get other stylists for blow outs and I’m always 100% satisfied not only with my hair but the experience as a whole. After 10 months between haircuts (5+ of those because of COVID-19), it was wonderful getting back to an always clean space with added protections and safety measures. Felt comfortable the whole time and my hair is beautiful and healthy once again, so thank you!

As always Gerald and Company do a superb job. Ladies tell your husband or boyfriend or neighbor they have a great men’s salon upstairs and they even do hot towel shaves . My favorite is Nicole Kraft she’s excellent !! She’s does men’s coloring superb!!

Samantha was amazing. I wanted to go from brassy red hair to gray with my natural dark brown hair color. Sam heard what I was asking for and delivered my exact vision. She was patient, and determined to get the exact right color and even went and purchased the color that would do the trick since it wasn’t in stock at the salon on her own time. Nikki is an amazing stylist. So happy she and the entire staff are back. Everything is clean and spotless, the temperature taking upon arrival is very comforting, and the hand sanitizer on every station is in constant use. Plexiglass everywhere. Elbow bumps instead of hugs makes me a little sad. But, they are back and I for one am so delighted.

Ed Parks has been cutting my hair for a few years now. I have a 18 month old & I was tired of seeing the hair in his face. I asked Ed if he wouldn’t mind cutting his hair. He said of course! Now I’ve done my research on other salons or children’s salons & read nightmare reviews so needless to say I was very nervous for his 1st cut. Especially w this pandemic. As far as my sons haircut goes, I couldn’t have been happier. We were so impressed on Ed’s professionalism & also how he handled our son. My son didn’t make a peep & the haircut came out unbelievable!!!! I’m very happy that we decided to take him to shag. It was the best experience being it was his 1st cut! Great shave clean up and great conversation

I recently had my hair colored and cut. I chose a daring color that I thought would have turned out differently. My stylist went over and beyond to make any changes to make me a happy satisfied customer! They were so polite and understanding. It should also be noted that they were VERY clean and using proper protocols during Covid-19. I felt very safe during my visit.

Got my hair cut & colored by Gina yesterday, it felt good to do something "normal" even with a mask on!! The Team is very concious of cleaning and disinfecting all the areas and I felt very comfortable, except for the mask for 2 hours. I don't know how they wear them all day! But regardless of my thoughts on masks, it was awesome to be doing something we had missed and Gina nailed my hair color and I love the cut!! She's awesome!!

Haven't been able to get a professional haircut for over 3 months but now Shag 86 is back and just as great as ever; all safety protocols are in place and everyone is happy to be back and even happier to have us clients back. As always, all services were performed promptly and at their consistent high standards. A bit of normal life has returned, fingers crossed that it lasts.

A long awaited visit with Nikki and the rest of my friends at Shag 86. It was like old home week. Gerald greeted his guests at the door with his thermometer, which was quite comforting. All chairs were set up with every other one remaining empty, the shampoo stations were separated by plexiglass partitions, all chairs were sanitized before and after customer use. I could go on and on about the Covid precautions, but in the end it’s all about the hair!!!!! Nikki worked her magic after almost 4 months and I felt like a girl again. So happy.

Hello, while in desperate need of hair color, I was hesitant to come back to Shag 86, during this Covid time. However, I called in advance and was told of their precautions, felt comfortable and made an appointment. I thought they took the necessary precautions best they could. Their staff was minimal, clients were spread apart, everyone wore masks and gloves, the reception was protected by shields, they took your temperature before entering. No coffee station, if you needed the bathroom soaps were plentiful. As I left I did not feel "I took a chance" instead it felt like I did something normal (the "new normal") today and it felt good. After over three long covid-filledmonths, I was able to return to shag 86 for a haircut. I was immediately greeted at door by an employee taking your temperature and was led to my seat at Gina’s station. Her cut was great as always, but the entire salon made me feel very safe after the NJ corona outbreak. The owner Gerald even came by to say hello. I’ve been coming here for years and have no intention of stopping.

If you have frizzy course curly hair then shag86 is thevplace to go. Lilly Vasquez is my stylist. She specializes in curly hair. Her knowledge and experience is head on for she has curly hair of her own. Services are a bit expensive but its worth it. There was never a time i leftvthe salon disatisfien and unhappy.
